Your Mercer University HOSA- Future Health Professionals Achievements and Accomplishments
Mercer University Wins Anatomage Tournament at 2022 ILC
June 22-25, 2022
Nashville, Tennessee
Mercer University HOSA had 5 students compete in the Anatomage Tournament: an interactive, team-based competition to test student's knowledge of anatomy.
The students that competed in the tournament included: Kaylie Cofield, Makenzie Friend, Ashley Penalbert, Michael Plack and Matthew Simmerman.
The students competed in round 1 of the tournament where they came in first place. At the end of the second round, they were in third place. The third round of the tournament determined which two teams would make it into the finals, in which Mercer HOSA placed second place. Your Mercer Bears came out on top with a huge first place win in the final round of the tournament! Each bear on the team was awarded a $150 Amazon giftcard prize!

Mercer University HOSA Attends First International Leadership Conference Since Becoming An Established Chapter
June 22-25, 2022
Nashville, Tennesssee
Mercer University HOSA had nine students and alumni attend the International Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. The individuals that attended were Kaylie Cofield, Makenzie Friend, Thomas Head, Ashley Penalbert, Emma Plack, Michael Plack, Jada Robinson, Matthew Simmerman, and Audrey Stratton.
1st place: Jada Robinson (Cultural Diversities and Disparities).
2nd Place: Audrey Stratton (Veterinary Science)
3rd Place: Kaylie Cofield (Pathophysiology), Michael Plack (Epidemiology), Matthew Simmerman (Biomedical Laboratory Science)
Top 10: Ashley Penalbert (Medical Terminology)

Mercer University HOSA Takes On Georgia HOSA State Leadership Conference 2022
March 10-12, 2022
Mercer University HOSA had 14 students attend the conference in Atlanta, Georgia. 9 students placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in their HOSA Competitive Event, advancing them from the State to the International Level. These students include:
1st place: Moriah Chariz Cabadin (Prepared Speaking), Kaylie Cofield (Pathophysiology), Emily Lewis (Medical Math), Ashley Penalbert (Medical Terminology), Michael Plack (Epidemiology), Caleb Rhyne (Job Seeking Skills), Jadda Robinson (Cultural Diversities and Disparities), Matthew Simmerman (Biomedical Laboratory Science), and Audrey Stratton (Veterinary Science).
2nd Place: Tori Glazier (Cultural Diversities and Disparities)

Top Point Award Winners

Mercer University HOSA believes in recognizing the active members that help make our chapter successful. Mercer HOSA would not be here without them! This Semester, the top 3 point earners were recognized with prizes and the 4th-10th place earners were entered into a raffle for a HOSA prize!
1st Place: Tori Glazier- Tori is the most active Mercer HOSA member for Fall 2021, earning an outstanding 88 points. Tori was awarded a HOSA Tumblr filled with candy, a HOSA EOS lip balm, and a HOSA phone wallet.
2nd Place: Dara Bomani- Dara is the second most active member in the Mercer University HOSA chapter, earning 86 points this semester. Dara was awarded a HOSA coffee cup filled with candy and a HOSA phone wallet.
3rd Place: Mylin Nguyen- Mylin earned the third most amount of points this semester, earning a total of 65 points. Mylin was awarded a HOSA coffee cup filled with candy and a HOSA phone wallet.
4th-10th Place raffle: Makenzie Friend- Makenzie had earned 46 points over the course of this semester. She won the raffle for a HOSA coffee cup filled with candy.

MERCER HOSA SENDS 8 STUDENTS TO VIRTUAL FALL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
November 13, 2020
FLC looked a little different this year but that did not stop Mercer HOSA students from having a blast! Students: Kaylie Cofield, Kayla Chambers, Thomas Head, Maahi Jain, Emma McDaniel, Aarav Patel, Caleb Rhyne, and Matthew Simmerman attended the virtual conference. Events included:
-Keynote Speaker: Jessica Cox- The first armless pilot by learning how to fly a plane with her feet. She also is a licensed scuba diver, holds a Guinness World Record, and plays piano with just her feet.
- Workshop: Chris Fields- He was a former fire fighter and was a first responder in the Oklahoma City Bombing. He taught us about PTSD and the importance of mental health.
- Workshop: HOSA State Officer Board- how to further our leadership development skills. They explained the different types of leaders, the importance of servant leadership, how to have empathy, and how to foster a community. Leadership is not a hierarchy!
- Workshop: Nate Thomas, Ashley McGahey, and Ethan Gray- panel held by Nate (respiratory therapist), Ashley (NICU nurse), and Ethan (EMT) talking about how COVID has changed their work life, how they picked their careers, how to stay in school, the worst cases they've ever had, and how to cope with mental illnesses.
-Workshop: Shelly Kinnunen: taught about leadership in healthcare. We discussed characteristics of a leader, how to be a leader over others, and how to be a good listener.
